Family Friendly Recipes That Pack a Puff

Bored with the same old baby food recipes? These BLW recipes pack a...puff! Introduce peanut allergens and flavor to some classic kid foods.

moms cooking with daughtersWe partnered with Family Led Eating to create three recipes that help families add flavor, peanut (and almond!) allergens, and protein to classic kid foods. Family Led Eating is a sister-team with backgrounds in pediatric dietitian, marketing, and parenthood. Their mission is to help modern families introduce baby-led weaning and raise intuitive eaters one bite at a time.   

All of these recipes are great for all ages and can be enjoyed as a family - baby, toddler, and adults! Family led Eating applied pediatric dietitian principles to each recipe to ensure proper nutrition and safety for babies with no added sugar or added sodium. And of course, taste tested and approved by little ones to ensure proper deliciousness!

Puff-Crusted Chicken Tenders - A healthier baked chicken finger made with organic peanut protein.

Frozen Banana Snack - This is the perfect balanced summertime snack made with banana, Greek yogurt, and crushed puffs.

Rolled Avocado - Crushed puffs make it easier for babies to pick up slippery foods and also adds fun texture to a foundational baby-led weaning food.

RD Tips:

  • The 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines recommend avoiding added sugar in children under two

Puff-Crusted Chicken Tenders

Puffworks crusted chicken

Makes 4 servings of 2 chicken tenders

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. chicken breast tenders
  • 1 cup crushed PuffWorks Original Peanut Butter Puffs
  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs
  • ½ tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. paprika
  • 2 eggs (beat with 2 tablespoons water)
  • Cooking spray

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F. Line a pan with parchment paper - spray the pan before to help the paper stick).
  2. Add crushed puffs to a shallow bowl.
  3. Combine the panko bread crumbs, garlic powder, and paprika to taste in a separate shallow bowl.
  4. Pour the whisked eggs into a third shallow bowl.
  5. Lightly dredge chicken in puffs, dip in eggs, and dip in the bread crumb mixture.
  6. Place chicken on the prepared pan and spray with cooking spray or oil.
  7. Bake for 18-22 minutes or until cooked through at 185 degrees.

For babies under 1: Chicken tenders are white meat and sometimes may be dry for early eaters. You can try mixing it with breastmilk, formula, or ricotta cheese to soften the consistency.

Frozen Banana Snack

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Cut both bananas in half and place a popsicle stick half-way into each banana half.
  2. Spread yogurt on a plate and roll banana in the yogurt, spreading it with a spoon or knife.
  3. Crush puffs on a cutting board or plate, roll banana in the crushed puffs.
  4. Lay bananas on a baking sheet covered in foil, freeze for 2-4 hours

*Greek yogurt is thicker and spreads easier on the banana. No need to use a flavored yogurt, the puffs add plenty of sweetness

For babies under 1: Use the Puffworks Baby Puffs or Original Peanut Puffs.
